The Corvair has a flat 6 engine. I guess "boxer" is another name for it. It's also air cooled, so no radiator, etc. My Corvair 700 has an astonishing 80 hp pumping from its maniacal 145 cubic inch power house harnessed to a mighty 2 speed PowerGlide transmission. I say this, but as of this being published, it's in parts and not running. First order of business it to get the engine, gas, and electrics sorted. Then onto the brakes. |

The mighty flat 6 with all the shrouds, etc. It's actually hard to tell what's going on except for the obvious. |
Now those shrouds are off and you can see where the spark plugs go and where the go. Lots of fins for cooling. |
"Custom" cover over the oil cooler. |
3 fin cooler..probably need to replace this. You can also see how close it is to the number 2 piston. |
Number 5 spark plug. Rag is covering inlet for the carb that was removed. |
Number 5 spark plug and a peak at what lives below. |
Vacuum line for the PowerGlide transmission. |

Looks like the numer 2 piston has some bends in the fins. I won't be touching these since it's more likely I'll break them than bend them correctly. |
Distributor and coil. Just to the right side of the engine. |
Tensioner. The fan belt (notorious for coming off) used a tensioner to hold it in place. Opposite is the generator, above is the fan, and below is the crank shaft/balancer. |
Under the right hand side. These are the exhaust logs/headers. You can also see the valve cover at the top.
