The Corvair uses a generator instead of an alternator. The one my Corvair is shot, so I decided to try to rebuild it. The basic rebuild involves replaces the brushes (and in my case the springs that keep the brush against the commutator), some nuts and bolts, a new washer, bearings, bushing, and a small key. Not too hard, except getting the nut on the end off...lots of rust holding it on.

Generator

The generator in its natural state.
This end of the generator where the brass(?) bushing lives. Getting the old one out was interesting. I don't think I'd replace it if I had to do it over again.
New brushes with new springs.
